Membership is open to all duly qualified surgeons who are recognised as and practice as Specialist General Surgeons in New Zealand. No restrictions shall be imposed on any person by virtue of religious or political beliefs, gender, nationality, race or age, but the Society shall have the right to refuse membership to any person without assigning any reason thereof.

If you have any interaction with our trainees or our system SOLA, or would like us to, NZAGS can collect your membership fee directly from your DHB on your behalf. However, if you aren’t working for a DHB, NZAGS will invoice you directly.
The current full membership fee is: $1,150.00pa incl GST (for 2024). All other membership types are a % as per the list below.
General – $1,150.00 pa
Associate Membership (non-resident surgeons or semi-retired) – $575.00 pa
Fully Retired – Free
Surgeon over 65 but still working – $575.00
NZ Resident Fellow Residing Short-term Overseas – FREE
NZAGS Trainee – $575.00 pa (taken out of the annual training fee paid)
Maternity/Paternity leave – $FREE
The fee is ratified yearly at the ASM usually held in March/April.
