What is SOLA?
SOLA (Surgical Online Logbook and Assessments) is NZAGS’ online system for recording operative experience and managing training‑related assessments for General Surgery trainees. SOLA supports competency‑based training by providing a central platform for logbooks, assessments, and progress monitoring throughout surgical training.
Accessing SOLA
SOLA is accessed via the NZAGS online portal.
If you have forgotten your password, you can reset it directly from the login page.
Using SOLA During Training For Trainees
Trainees use SOLA to:
- Record operative procedures undertaken during each training rotation
- Maintain an accurate surgical logbook across all training terms
- Upload and submit assessments for review
- Track progress against training requirements and curriculum expectations
For Supervisors and Assessors
Hospital Supervisors and accredited Trainers can use SOLA to:
- Review and approve trainee logbooks
- Complete assessments and provide feedback
- Monitor trainee progress within accredited training posts
Supervisors can view their assigned trainees via the “Your Trainees” tab once logged into the system.
Assessments in SOLA
All training assessments must be uploaded and submitted through SOLA under the Assessments section. Users are required to:
- Select the correct training rotation
- Confirm the trainee’s current SET or GSET level
- Upload the relevant assessment documentation
SOLA ensures assessments are stored securely and linked correctly to the trainee’s training record.
