NZAGS conducts the selection process, training and assessment on behalf of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons to ensure that surgical trainees become competent surgeons who provide safe, comprehensive surgical care of the highest standard to the communities we serve.
The Aotearoa New Zealand Training Sub-Committee allocates trainees to accredited training posts for their clinical placements. The Aotearoa New Zealand Committee in General Surgery monitors the quality and outcomes of training in each post through regular hospital accreditation processes and through information from trainees’ logbooks. Hospitals also have supervisors to monitor trainee progress.
RACS has an online resource – JDocs to assist junior doctors on their pathway to surgery. For more information on JDocs click here JDocs
