NZAGS delivers General Surgery training through a Service Agreement with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (RACS). Governance of General Surgery training in New Zealand is administered by the Aotearoa New Zealand Committee in General Surgery (AONZCiGS).
The College (RACS) is the principal body for the training and education of surgeons in New Zealand and Australia. Accreditation is given by the New Zealand and Australian Medical Councils to the College and standards for education and training are established by the College.

Pre register with RACS – from 9 January 2024
Must hold New Zealand or Australian Medical Registration
Completion of the Generic Surgical Sciences Examination
Completion of at least 12 weeks of Critical Care from one unit
Completion of the Procedural Skills and Professional Capabilities form
Completion of at least 52 weeks of General Surgery from one surgical term or two 26 weeks from two surgical terms
