The NZAGS Executive Committee provides leadership, governance and strategic direction for the Association. Our Committee brings together surgeons from across Aotearoa New Zealand who contribute their experience, insight and time to support the profession and ensure the needs of general surgeons and trainees are represented at a national level.
The Committee oversees key areas of NZAGS activity, including training and education, advocacy, workforce issues, member engagement and organisational governance. Members work collaboratively with partners across the health sector, including RACS, Te Whatu Ora, private providers and national agencies, to support safe, sustainable and equitable surgical services.
Our Executive Committee reflects the breadth and diversity of General Surgery in New Zealand. Each member brings a commitment to professional standards, high‑quality care and the ongoing development of our specialty. Together, they help guide the direction of NZAGS and strengthen the voice of general surgeons across the motu.
The Executive Committee has responsibilities for the overall direction of the activities and affairs of the Association and shall work to enhance and promote the interests of the Association and its current and future members.
This is detailed in the Constitution of the NZAGS. In nominating members of the Executive Committee (see the list below), the Association should encourage those who have relevant skills and experience to contribute at this level.

The Executive Committee has overall responsibility for the activities and affairs of the Association, which in practice is achieved through delegation to the Executive Director, and the Standing Committees of the Association.
