NZAGS is governed by a formal Constitution and an elected Chair and Executive Committee. Any changes to the Constitution must be approved by a majority vote at the Annual Scientific Meeting.
NZAGS has adopted the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons Code of Conduct, and we are committed to the values of service, professionalism, integrity, respect, compassion, commitment, diligence and collaboration. These values guide how we work with colleagues, trainees, health care teams, patients and partners across the health sector.
The Code of Conduct sets out the minimum professional standards expected of NZAGS members and reflects the broad responsibilities of general surgeons in their practice. It provides practical guidance to help members, including trainees, uphold these standards throughout their careers. Members are encouraged to engage with the Code regularly as part of ongoing professional development.
RACS provides additional resources that support safe, respectful and equitable workplaces, including a fact sheet on bullying, discrimination and sexual harassment, as well as a policy outlining expectations for behaviour in the workplace.
