Dr David Read,
David is the Director of Trauma and a Colorectal Surgeon at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. He has trained in Adelaide, United Kingdom, Darwin, San Antonio Texas. Melbourne and Auckland. He is a broadly experienced General Surgeon who has interest’s trauma, conflict and disaster surgery, colorectal cancer, and laparoscopic hernia repair. Prior to moving to Melbourne, he worked in Darwin for 16 years, and developing many surgical services such. as burns, paediatrics, trauma and breast surgery, and had a heavy commitment to Indigenous health with his decade and half long dedication to specialist outreach visits to remote Indigenous Communities. His private practice is based at at Melbourne Private Hospital, and he is a VMO at the Royal Women’s Hospital as a colorectal Surgeon. David is senior surgeon for Australian Medical Assistance Teams (AUSMAT), has been central to the establishment of the National Critical Care & Trauma response Centre (NCCTRC) in Darwin. He teaches on many trauma and disaster related courses. He has been decorated for his efforts after the Bali Bombings and Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines. David’s research interests are the epidemiology of trauma, disaster response surgery, and cancer and trauma outcomes in rural Australians.
